Anthelmintic Efficacies of Aramin on Ascariasis

Abstract
Prompt and adequate treatment of infected; individuals is an essential part of any pro gram for the prevention of parasitic diseases.
It may be admitted that the declining tendency of ascariasis in urban area is owing to the extensive use of suitable anthelmintics.
Considering the relatively higher efficacies of combined preparations than simple one, trials with a new anthelmintic, Aramin were undertaken for 150 ascariasis patients. This preparation is in white tablet containing 1, 200 mg of pip erazine adipate 60mg of santonin and 5mg of kainic acid per 6 tablets.
The results obtained were summarizad as follows:
1) Of 98 positive for ascaris egg and given in a dose of this drug, 95 (96. 9%) was proved negative for the egg by MGL concentration technic 2,3 weeks after administration The egg reduction rate as a whole was found 96, 6% by Beaver¢¥ s egg count method.
2) The rest 3 cases also became negative when given in two doses at the intervals of 2 weeks.
3) When used in recommended dose of Aramin, the side effects were almost negligible, the occurence rate being 26. 7% of 101 patients. They were so slight that they may continue their daily life without any difficulty.
4) At present, the mass trsatmnent with suitable anthelmintics may be considered as one of the major campaign projects to diminish the parasitic diseases in Korea, Among the anthelmintics, the combined preparations were considered to have better effects and less side reactions, because of the synergistic actions and the less amount of each components in pharmacological point of view.
5) A new drug, Aramin was proved to have a great therapeutic activity against human ascariasis when used in a single dose without any notable side reaction, and may be recommended ase one of good anthelmintics fbr ascariasis.
